duri - widuri

and that was long time ago when he met her in duri, an oil camp in centra sumatra, near pekan baru. he, a young and raring-to-go newly grad, and she, a college undergrad in bandung having her school holidays back home..... they met in the rainy season, when things were much slowed down. he had some days off with his irregular works in the oilfield.

one day, he was caught in the rain and she held out an umbrella to him in a grocery shop and they walked together back to his container cabin.... they had so much to talk about that the two hours that they had before darkness set in, and she had to go was pathetically too short. but they had it good when they met again and again to go tracking in the forest, to witness the most romantic sunset from the peak of the nearby hill, to catch fish in the rubber tree plantation ditches, to go over again and again their ambitions and dreams of their lives....

and she flew back to bandung for her school.... and letters that he wrote to her sank into a deep abyss, without any reply.... and time went by and he moved on, until just now when he heard the song widuri.....

wee hour - brighter

slept at eight on the couch, with the tv on, the ceiling fan on, the windows open. woke up at 10 something. said the nite prayer. and went back to sleep, until 2 am something. received a few sms's with some good news. washed up and brushed teeth. did some emailing, and checked out some news in the net.

life is all about sleep.

when you got a good one, you congratulate yourself. when a bad one comes, you sulk.

he's gone berserk these days. lost his bearing on life.

but faith held him back in one piece.

with faith, life is much more simpler. why struggle so hard to overcome whatever that seemed insurmountable?

isn't help just a prayer away?

the bright people don't get it..... only the brighter.

good and bad - who cares

are you beautiful?

are you fair?

what's that to answer?

when you are in doubt. you doubt whether your life in this world is so detrimental to the ones you interact, you have to stop doing what you have been doing and ask yourself these questions.so you do not keep on doing what's you have been doing that's destroying people's lives.

you are a potential devil.

they say whoever you are, is reflected in the people around you. if they are a bunch of non-achievers, there, that's what you are.

if you are among the high-flyers, you would be one of them too.

the way it goes, the things you do affect the people around you, so be sensitive to that.

marathon man's fren ah hong went to the pub and order jugs and jugs of beer.

a gal next to him, wondered, "mr you sure you can finsih all these jugs?"

"hello.... cutie pie, you bet."

"are you alright, to drink so much beer?"

"you bet.... i just had a promotion."

"your boss be very good to you. let's drink to that."

"wait a minute - my boss said, i'm good for nothing, except for one thing, that's why he promoted me."

"what's that?"

"i'm good at promoting him to all the company people how good a boss he is."

boss - how to be a smart boss

to make a balance of things out of all the various outside stimulus is tough.

especially when the boss is micro-managing the subordinates. this is pretty like what the pap is facing.

but can you afford not to do that, if you are the boss? especially when your people are not that smart, or they are too smart, rather too self-centred to get themselves in the politics of things.

why does the boss want to micro-manage. he does that when the issue has bubble up to his level, and his subordinate already come to and end of his wits to deal with the issue. he has to more or less take over the issue from him and calling the shots himself.

that's clear to the boss all this while. otherwise he would not even want to know what's happening in the daily routines of the operations. he's a hands-off boss. but when push comes to shove, he is not going to push his people to the wall for solutions. he will work with them to fix the issue. is that a good boss.

good maybe. but no smart. to some subordinates, this is micro-managing when their boss is breathing down their necks.

but it could not help that their boss does that, because he cannot sit there and hope that their driven-to-the-wall subordinate could go any further to work out the solution(and the subordinate being a gungho employee does not acknowledge his dire situation and asks for help).

marathon man's fren complains about his boss being very bossy lately.

marathon man ask him, "is your boss used to be like that all the time?"

"no. but lately."

"then you must be giving him problem?"

"me, giving him problem?"

"like you are expected to take care of the problem in the line, and the problem is left open.... and the people above him go to him for solution....."

"the way he questioned me like i did not work."

"he going to answer to his superior, he needs all the info to do that."

"i feel like i'm being micro-managed. and i don't like it."

"then tell him you can fix the issue."

"but i am swamped with other issues...."

"look at it this way; wouldn't it be better that your boss comes along and help you out....."

"i think, i will talk to him about my feeling."

"yap. you should do that. and listen to what he says."

"so did you talk to your boss?"

"yes."

"what did he say?"

"he said, i should be part of the solution and not be the problem."

"ha.... really? what do you think."

"what else can i do if i want to stay. i have to dig-in and face the battle by myself."

- you see, that's what a smart boss should do. for a smarter boss, he don't have to face this type of question from his subordinates - he would just pretend he's so busy, he don't have time for them.

face - the mouth

a person's face is never symmetrical. why? because the left side of the face mirrors the right brain and the right face mirrors the left brain, and we know the right brain is different from the left brain.

the most obvious facial asymmetry feature is how the mouth is placed in the whole of the face. many people have the mouth tilted to one side. some more than others. why?

the mouth is the organ that is the projection of our ego. and we know a person's perception of his existence is his ego. how much ego a person has normally is echoed thru the way the person speaks.... is he a non-stop talker(a person whose ego needs others attention), a person who is reticent(confident of his own existence), a person who shouts(do not commands others' respect, need to put a lot of effort to get himself across), a person who speaks with authority(one whose doesn't use his mouth to convince people, but rather his presence).....

a person who mouth is tilted left means his right brain is more active than his left. he's a very logical and mechanical person with little feelings and artistic inclination. whereas if his mouth is pulled to the right, he's an artistic person, romantic.....

how about one whose mouth is right smack in the centre of the face - his left and brain is balanced..... and he has problem to make a decision - his right and left brains are always at odds to decide what action to take to any stimulus - a tragic!
