Impression of more than 2000 yrs, little change in the traditons and other aspects of the egyptians. The kings of the old kingdom donned the same attire as the kings from new kingdom - worshipping the same gods, making the same monuments except the tombs of old kingdoms were pyramids, whereas the later kings built tombs in the kings' valley.

Looks like history is more of kings and powerful people than of the ordinary folks. If the kings don't change their ways of life, the people would care little to do so. Hence the point to democracy is to let the people have more say what they want and how they want to live their lives instead of pushed down from the top. Singapore reflect exactly the kingdom system where by changes are pushed down from the top.
