mother passed away at nite, 1 jul 2010.
his nephew told him, when he went back home that nite at about 8 something, she was awake and greeted him by saying, "you are ah maan." he was trying to be chicky, said, "no, i'm not ah maan, i 'm seng fatt." since she had problem in recognising people. "no, you are not seng fatt, you are a maan." after that he went to bed.... at about 10 something his father rushed in and said, "come, something happened. mother passed out.... her body is cold...."
on the second day, the taoist priest came at noon time and started the rite of chanting, and by then the shack was erected, and table were laid out. and the various burial paperworks were displayed. then carried mother from the house into the coffin. in the evening, from 6pm to 12 midnite, on and off, the priests performed the chants.
yesterday was the third day mother passed away.
the band came at about 1pm and heralded the funeral procedure with different tunes... mostly mandarin oldies, and also the latest ones - like 'nobody but you'...
the taoist priest started to gather the relatives at 1.30pm and after some chants, the relatives took turn to have the last viewing of mother before the coffin was nailed.
by two the coffin being lifted to the toyota mpv, and the procession started with the people moving into a hired bus which was waiting at the wrong place.
he, being the eldest son, took hold of mother's 'soul seat' and sat infront of the mpv where mother's coffin was transported.
the journey to the burial hill in kubang semang took about 45 minutes. and the burial ceremony took about half an hour. the site was quite high up in the hill, overlooking seberang jaya, mother's home when he was alive. after the coffin was lowered to the dug-up hole, he was asked to do the final adjustment on the orientation of the coffin. then, they pay respect with josticks and cast a handful of earth into the hole, and left.
