freak accident happens.
this morning marathon man was squatting down to pick up an apple-seed from the kitchen floor, when he stood up there was a big impact on the back of his head.... he hit the edge of the marble counter. at once, his morning sleepiness dissipated, and his hand reached to the back of his head.... not feeling any pain. but something inside was building up. he quickly grapped a piece of table cloth, dispensed some ice-cubes from the freezer, wrapped them in the cloth and put it on the spot where it was hit. the ice stayed on the head until the coldness of it hurt at the place where it was placed.
the rest of the day, he sustained the injury with not much of any obvious outter sign, but who knows what would happen later on.
anyway, he set out to do what he's supposed to do - he started his jogging from fusionopolis, the turqois building with a middle-eastern facade that houses the a-star hq. he went up nepal park, where he found all houses were under renovation, nearly completed, but un-occupied. he checked out biopolis. the place was a modern design in layout, other than the functional buildings, there were boutiqued plaza's and playground for the people working here, and some mid-rise housing blocks, newly completed.... he entered the food court in matrix block, to use the loo. he went on to woking road, whitchurch road where the colonial buildings stood without alterations, and without any recent touch-ups. some of these building were not occupied, esp near the railway. he passed by colbar - he met a couple taking wedding pictures, he moved closer to them.... and was surprised to find out that they were the same couple that he met in changi coastal boardwalk. he made a wave to the couple.... "hi.... how's the shooting going?"
"going fine.... we meet again. what a co-incident. you jog everywhere?" the man said.
"ya.... and for me to meet the same strangers in different places is really some thing that's against great odds."
"just like how i met my future wife.... i am an avid jogger myself, and like you i put my feet all over singapore. and one time i was been confronted by a loose dog from a terrace house with its gate open. just when the dog was about to sink its teeth into me, a lady came out and stopped its advance. and lo and behold, that was my future wife...."
he left the couple and continued to jln hang jebat. the place seemed familiar to marathon man, as he was sure that he did come here before, but it baffled his memory that he was here at any time before. probably it was because of the new portsdown ave cutting this area into 2 , confusing his sense of orientation. he strutted across the railway to an empty, abandoned field, the one he always sees when driving along queensway near mei chin rd. now finally he was stepping on it, and it was like a dream come true - it's dream-like, but this dream was not something that glamorous or romantic, or that meant a lot. nevertheless a dream it had been... it's just something you always wanted to find out what's it like if you are there.... and here marathon man was - serendipity like freak accidents happens at times when you least expect it - like how marathon man hit his head this morning, and how the couple came to meet each other.
