she had poise and she had the substance he's been looking for. and she seemed to steal looks on him, as he did on her.
marathon man sat across the table where she sat. and that was the first time his attention was distracted by her exceptional beauty.
then there was this dinner last nite. he went in that exquisite indian restaurant famous for its northern indian cuisine, and she was already there, with the seat beside her not taken.
"is tis seat taken?"
"no."
"may i?"
"sure."
he sat down. not saying another word, until the dinner started. when he fetched over the dish to her, "you like some shrimps?"
"no, thanks. i'm a vegetarian, i won't mind to have some cauliflower."
"oh... sure." he took the chance of introducing himself and asking for her name.
"are you first time in singapore?"
"no. i used to stop over in singapore when flying back to delhi."
"you are from delhi?"
"hmm.... my parents are. i live in the states."
"so are you going back to delhi after the meetings?"
"yes."
"i haven't been to delhi before.... heard it's a big city."
"big and dirty. talking about dirty, i would like to have a glass of dirty martini."
"hi, give this lady a glass of dirty martini." he signaled to the serviceman, then said to her, "are you looking forward going back to delhi?"
"hmmm... i don't know. this time, i'm supposed to go back for a match making."
"on you?"
"yes...... you think it's weird?"
"not so.... but what do you think?"
"i don't know. that's our tradition, and i guess it's ok."
"can you say no, if you don't find any one you like?"
"i will."
"or can you say no, if you have already found the one you love outside your match making circle?"
"i will."
"then why not telling your parents to let you decide, instead of going thru match making?"
"what's wrong with match making - i think if you are divinely match-made with someone you least expect, isn't it beuatiful? and to think that it happened to me right here, right at this moment would make it most incredible. don't you think so?"
"....."
