the king was impressed by his gardener's skill and dedication in keeping his big palace in tip-top shape. he asked him, why he's so fond of plants and flowers that he spent all his time in tending to them, and no time for his beautiful wife.
he answered, "to keep the beauty of flowers is to work hard on them; whereas to keep the beauty of a woman, you have to work hard for her, your majesty."
