the bishan exercise group dinner held in yishun safra, was a big success, with full attendance and the whole dinner was filled with well participated events.... demo of different health exercises, different styles of taiji, karaoke, know-your-song contest, national dress parade....
the taiji teacher cum group leader was the main motivator of the annual party. she was also the mc. the group consists mainly of chinese educated people. most of them women and senior people. with one couple from dutch, who could not communicate with the teacher who is chinese educated.
so the teacher's assistance acted as an interpreter in the dinner.
the dutch couple fell in love with the way the teacher tot taiji. they wanted to invited the teacher to set up a class in their home town, fully sponsored with a reasonably well-worked out teaching fee. but she does not know english or other european languages, so she did not go.
in the national dress event.
the teacher said, "now i want you to meet my student from a far-away country, and she and me are like a chicken and a duck..... we cannot communicate in our language. but i am very glad that she appreciated very much the learning of taiji. and let's welcome.... pandalila from holland...."
she walked onto the stage in the typical dutch dress completed with big wooden clogs.
she spoke into the mike, " i don't know what my teacher said. only word i understood was when she called my name. but i like taiji and the way she teaches it...... as how i learn without much verbal conversation, well.... taiji is ssss....lll....ooo...www... like a duck. and i am a professional dancer.... hence it's not that hard to learn the steps....."
the teacher asked her assistant, "what she say ha?"
the assistance said, "she said, she is the disco chicken and you are the duck.... i mean the taiji duck.... slow in motion!"
