lucban farm tour - johnny walker

like angoing for an adventure, they waded thru thick undergrowth, narrow padi field embankments, muddy ground into the 'farm', an unattended farm in the suburb of lucban. Mang nestor, the barangai tanuh (farm watchman) did a very good job in leading the expedition, while the property agent itchie provided enough info on the value of the farm.

The 16-hec farm is deep into provincial ground, far away from the tarmac road. The van wobbled along the uneven country road. It was a rainy day, amidst brief dry spells, the highly rusty gate welcome the prospective buys with some creaking sound. The cleared path led to a delipidated house on stilt, with a rabbit locked in a cage, a dog running around and some kampung chicken pecking about. The whole farm was planted extensively with temegong(mahagony) hardwood, and quite a number of coconut trees and some calamansi. then some pady fields, tended by the caretaker. but the caretaker was nowhere to be seen.

they moved in further. and witness more wildelness and a couple of patches of paddie fields, and a pond, and a few cows, and patch of coconut trees.

they made their way back from another route, tip-toed on the narrow emnankments of the paddie fields. he nearly lost his balance and fell into the water-locked paddie field. mang nestor was thinking on his feet, chopped down some big branch and gave him as a walking stick, to anchor himself in the tight walk.

he had too good a leep last nite, after a sleepness red-eye flight the nite before, so good that, his brain still in that sleepy mood, hence was subpar in the balancing aspect.

they made it to the gate, and had some refreshingly cool coconut water and fleash, freshly plucked by mang nestor.

the farm tour was extensive, it lasted 2 hours, walking, and walking......

to be a farmer, you have to be a walker!
