lky - never mind the leaves are falling

he was more than happy to talk about his personal side, that to a large extent he is human after all, though by his own words, he's been trying to put up a bold front all this while - that he's a man of no-nonsense when he fights for survival, mainly for himself - mentioning a few times he was bodily threatened by the communists the racialists/chauvinists, and also trying to stay fit at whatever cost - swimming, stop drink tea because it's diuretic, agnostic because never wanting to acknowledge the defeat of the self, never-ever retire for fear of losing his grip(of power instead of health). but behind this front, he revealed a little bit of his back - his wife been bedded for two years plus, his doubts on religions, his knowledge in english literature....

he is a man of his moment, and not realizing that his moment has passed him, like all the others before him, the monarchs, the dictators, the great thinkers/revolutionists..... will be the greatest regret, not only for him but for the nation as well.

he worries the younger generation squandered away his legacised singapore, little does he know that the younger generation is worrying about him trapping singapore in a nanny-state mindset that the million-dollared little-nanny assistances would be crying for milk when the their milk-providing-big-nanny is not around.

the leaves may be falling, but the trunk still there - an old trunk may not look weak..... its weakness starts from within.

read about the excerpt of the interview

pray that the trunk won't fall on somebody first before it hits the ground, like what he self-prophesied "..... I may still do something foolish before the lid is closed on me.”
