business - just matter of luck?

ah kiang called, "i want to tell you something important. but must tell you in person. can i come to see you this after noon?"

"ok, at 2pm."

ah kiang came and sat down, said, "there's something big happening in my company. since you are our main customer, i must let you know first. ah bert and choky have tendered their resignation yesterday."

ah bert is the far east vp cum sales and marketing vp, and choky is the far east operations vp. these two guys practically run the far east business of the company. but the company is listed in an ang moh country, with the majority shares and board of director from the ang mohs.

"just now, choky called me and told me the same thing."

"in fact we, the management from far east wanted to buy out the far east operations, and one year ago, the ang mohs already agreed. but when we made the move recently, they renegaded their promise. instead they only wanted to sell parts of the far east operations. it would not be viable for us to buy just part of it. the ang mohs wanted to sell it to other people. and looks like there's a buyer now, hence the two main guys quit."

"what's your plan? "

"me? me and the rest plan to stay put first and continue to support you."

"did others in your company know what's happening?""

"i'm going to announce it to them today."

"hmmm.... it's truly unfortunate things turn out this way..... "

for many years, ah kiang and his bosses have been doing a very good job supporting the his business. and now, the main guys quit, and next, many others may do so.... it would be a big change. all have to start from scratch again. moreover, the buyer is another big company in the same business as ah kiang's company, and also doing business with his company. after the buy-over, his company would find less of a bargain power on pricing when he negotiates it with the buy-over company.

people like and ah kiang and his bosses, they are very smart guys and very well respected in the industry. started up a company 12 years ago, brought it up to a matured size, but the economic crisis hit, did not ipo in time..... the investors lost their patience, and got another guy to run it. they quit en-mass, and started up the present company, and brought it up to a profitable enterprise, and now the ang moh ruined it because they were loosing money in the solar business in europe and wanted the cash to salvage it.....

in business, it's all timing and partnership and the niche your business is in.

if you work with good partners and hit the right timing, in the right niche, you would be a successful businessman......
