attended an old-boy association dinner in yan court, last nite. the boys were really old. but one guy who got kicked out from the school more than 50 years ago, came back to atone for his misdeed. and he looked like he's at his 40's.
there's another 80-plus year old guy who headed the early edb, was so knowledgeable on things related to chinese and china cultures, that marathon man learnt so much form him, he nearly wanted to kowtow to him to ask him to take him in as his student. he spoke a dialect which he spoke long time ago, and nearly forgotten about it, and yet he's not from the county where the dialect is spoken..... he said his wife and frens used to talk in that dialect. and as he said, of all the dialect in china, this is one of the few dialects which very few people know how to speak....
the most amazing thing was a 93-year-old old teacher attended the dinner, stood up in the stage and talked about things more than half a century ago, with very clear and sturdy voice, look like a 60-year old.
also invited were many school reps from other chinese secondary schools in malaysia and singapore, and also a competing school from the island, which used to compete with his alma mata in football, volley ball..... many years ago according to the senior who was at his table, "our head master was a sport fanatics. every year we compete with this school a few streets away. when we go to their school for the match, we would get our band, line them and the football team up and march across the street, all the way from our school to the opponent's school.... like going for a battle."
there was a young lady singer, quite good, sang some oldies which many appreciated.
and some property agents attended also to sell their stuff.
old boys and young gals(they were young because the school only accepted gals not so long ago when it opened a branch in the mainland) had a good time singing the school anthem, chewing chinese, and suckling english, not to mention pelting each other with mother-tongue, the northern-state hokkien....
