the ego has done its part in the public stage and now takes its final curtain draw-down with grace. that's retirement. resigning from one's position is not retirement, if the ego clings on to the limelight.
whatever you have being doing until now, you have being projecting your ego whether consciously or otherwise onto the stage of all interactions with the people around you, and people you have to deal with in emails, in phones.... and other forms of communication.
now you want to get away from all these. not only you have to get use to the new situation you will be in, the more your ego has to convince itself to suit itself in a new world.
lky cannot convince his ego to do that. or rather, he simply does not want to convince his ego it's time to take the bow and move to the backstage.
for him, life is an ego trip. and life without an ego, is a trip(as in an accidental fall).
