raohe night market - adventure
after the lantern festival, he took a taiwan train from chungshan stn to sungshan stn, and walked 3 minutes to the raohe night market. not too many things here, unlike the shiling night market. still a lot of food stalls.
he tried the garlic prata, the chive prata and the infamous, notoriously delicious smelly tofu.
was it good?
you bet! the smell lingered on....... it's like durian, an acquired taste. it challenges your way of thinking - for some, smell is not a show-stopper, for some, even the sight is not - like eating fish served still with the mouth gaping, for some even the sound is not - like eating alive the small just-born, squeaky mice, for some the feeling is not - like eating a live octopus....
the mind in its natural unbiased state treats everything edible as food. thru evolution, it favors some and ahhors the others.... based one's experience - those that he abhors doesn't do him good. and that's common sense.
but common sense while normally protects him, many times it keeps him from adventuring into new territory, stepping onto new grounds.....
does that mean the koreans who eat live octopus, the japs who eat raw fish are good at taking on new things? and the angmohs tend to hold back into adventures?
not so.
food is but one of the experiences that the ever-curious mind could explore - it can also dwell into exploring new places, new frontiers in sciences, in music, in art...... in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
