the BMT(basic military training) is carried out for all enlistees in tekong island, a 10-minute journey from mainland singapore by boat.
the parents and the enlistees gathered at pasir ris bus station at 9am, and boarded buses provided by the singapore army, for the saf pier at changi beach.
upon arriving the island, the enlistees were separated from their parents to register themselves. the parents were taken for a speech and a tour, then herded into an auditorium for a briefing on BMT, then witnessing the oath taking by the enlistees.
they then proceeded to the mess hall to 'sample' the ration for the recruits.
at about 2pm, the recruits said good-bye to the parents who took the ferry back to the mainland.
