up - university of the philippines has a big campus in diliman, quezon city. today is the first day of a new school term. students are busy in getting back to the dormitories. family members and relatives, friends normally accompany them.

this 102-year old school has become like any other public place in downtown manila, not so well kept and littered all over.

'let's take a group picture." he said.

"no. i cannot be in the picture. if not, we believe that i will not be able to graduate." the undergrad said.

"wow, every school has its belief. can you believe that in the u.s. school i attended, they believe if you step on the emblem lying at the entrance of school, you will be some big shot, someday."

"is it true? did you step on it?"

"it might as well be true. i would have done so, if not for where the emblem was, there's a hole of 7 feet deep."
