bob dylan - gone with the wind
bob dylan came to singapore and had a one-nite out-door show in the marina promenade - in the timbre rock&root concert. the show started at 6.30pm with a local group - raw earth. at 8pm a group called toots and maytals - from jamaica, with their fame being the first group to coin the word REGGAE put up an energetic show, with what they are good at - REGGAE music.
at 9.30pm, bob and his band appeared on the stage.
song after song, people clapped and cheered. but she said, "boring, all songs not familiar, but sounded familiar, only in tune, every one, trade-marked bob dylan one-track musical phrase. why is he not sing something familiar, like - blowing in the wind, knock on heaven's door, just like a woman...?"
after the last song, people shouted for encore.... for 5 minutes. the stage lighted up again, and the group finally belted out one oldie - FOREVER YOUNG, the tweak was so unrecognizably out of the original tune, it's become just one of those one-track-dylan-diatribe.... boring!
but the crowd cheered and clapped anyway!
- when a guys get old, he's stuck in his one-track mind. and the acutely subtle touch of his musical sensitivity all gone with the wind.
