woodlands stadium pap rally - come rain or shine
there was great fanfare in woodlands stadium, the choreographer shouted to the supporters to rehearse them for the cheering for the arrival of the vip's. but then it poured. all moved to the spectators' gallery. the sembawang pap candidates arrived at 7.30pm. drums rolled, percussions struck, and rap "we want, we want pap...." chorused thru the cheer teams. but rain stopped the rally to start.
after 8.00pm, the rally started with mr khaw the health minister as the first speaker under the shelter of the gallery.
he recounted incidents when residents thanked him for what he did, and also touched in length what his ministry had been doing. in general, he brushed aside the big hoo-haa created when the hospitals beds were severely in shortage, and even now, queue-time for visits was still long, and instead concluded that the singapore health service is as good as any in the world. but why not better than the rest?
that's the civil servant's mentality - just do enough to get by, not to have the visions and breakthroughs to give people what they should rightly deserve.
they bench-mark people's living standard against the third world's standard, but they bench-mark their own benefits against those of the top tiers - like comparing workers salary to third-world's salaries, but bench-mark their salaries to those of the top 5% earners - sounds like running a hedge fund.
"some rain or shine, we will embark to make the future together" - that's pap's manifesto - but now, we will take the meat first, and you take the bones!
singapore compared to a lot of countries, not a bad one. but too much unfairness, injustices need to be rectified.....
